New Year’s Eve Happenings

It is almost 2012, can you imagine another year has almost come to an end! For some of us this means quietly ushering in the New Year, making our own personal resolutions for a fresh start, maybe sharing a delicious meal with someone we love; and for others this means rocking in the New Year with a party and some live music and dancing. Whichever option best suits you, we have compiled a comprehensive listing of  New Year’s events throughout the cape sure to offer a little something for everyone! For detailed menu offerings and additional information on any of the events listed below please just click on the venue name to be directed to their website. This listing will grow and change so please check back often. (more…)

Consigning Women

Finding a great deal when shopping is always satisfying. We talk a lot these days about shopping local and supporting small business and for good reason! Consignment stores are a great way to support your local retail community while saving money on some of life’s required purchases: clothing and furniture. There are a lot of high quality consignment shops scattered about the Cape. Perhaps one of the largest is Consigning Women in East Harwich.

Consigning Women was opened in August of 2005 by owner Mary Martin, consigning at that time just gently “loved” women’s clothing and accessories. In July of 2010 Mary moved the store into a 7,000 square foot space and began consigning furniture and home décor, along with the clothing. (more…)

Happening Kids: Casey Kemp

Meet Casey Kemp an 11 year old dancer from East Falmouth. Casey dances at the Harper Dance Center in Mashpee under the direction of Sheena Harper, Artistic Director. As the oldest male dancer at the center, Casey is a great role model for the younger male students. He doesn’t just dance hard, he works hard as well assisting with two other boys’ dance classes held at the studio.

Casey is a 6th grader at Morse Pond School in Falmouth. He is an A student and his favorite subject is Math. When not dancing Casey is into sports and music, and loves to play Basketball, Baseball and Soccer.

Casey took a break from his hip hop class tonight to sit down and talk with us.

CCH:  How long have you been dancing?

CK:  I have been taking ballet for two years and hip hop for one year. I started out dancing while in 4th grade at East Falmouth Elementary.

CCH:  Hip Hop and Ballet are two very different styles of dance! Do you have a favorite and do you think knowing one helps you to advance in the other?

CK:  My favorite is ballet. Ballet definitely helps me with hip hop because you need to be really flexible to do hip hop, and ballet is all about stretching and flexibility.

CCH:  What do you find most challenging about dancing?

CK:  In ballet it would have to be lifting the girls!

CCH:  Do you have a dance role model, someone who inspires you?

CK: Sheena! Also, Nicola Ferraro who was my teacher before Sheena.

CCH:  Do you want to be a professional dancer when you grow up?

CK: I think I will continue dancing as I grow up, but I want to be a professional basketball player. When I retire from basketball I want to help teach kids to dance like I do now or have my own dance center like Sheena.

Keep working hard Casey and you can make it happen!
