DENNIS, MA – 1988 Barnstable High School graduate, Alicia Mathewson, celebrates the global release of her new album (2012: Isn’t It Amazing?) with a live concert at the Cape Cod Chat House on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 7PM.

A portion of the proceeds from her CD sales and upcoming performances will benefit the SQ Foundation, an organization that helps fund humanitarian projects (such as providing clean water, food, education, and shelter) to impoverished people in developing nations. 2012: Isn’t It Amazing? is an impressive album that showcases Alicia Mathewson’s pure voice and powerful songwriting, as well as her ability to play multiple instruments. Alicia’s music was inspired by her travels abroad, as well as her surroundings on Cape Cod. With songs like Birds in Barnstable, Sweet September, and Fairy Queen, she paints pictures with her lyrics and blends age-old chants and modern melodies to create songs that bring peace and harmony to the hearts and minds of listeners. Valentine’s Day on Cape Cod

Still trying to decide how you want to spend your Valentine’s Day and eve? For those last minute planners who want to enjoy a delicious meal with those you love, we have a selected a few of our favorite restaurants serving a special dinner package. We have also outlined a few fun and unique ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day Cape Cod style!

Why not celebrate Valentine’s Day in grand style at Mashpee Commons on Sunday, February 12 from 12-4pm! Surprise your loved ones with a romantic Horse-Drawn Carriage ride around the Commons, then catch a movie at Regal Cinemas or dinner and drinks at one of their award-winning restaurants. Provided by Paradise Stables of West Yarmouth, the carriages are beautiful white and black vis-à-vis limos, each pulled by two Percheron draft horses. The first 150 couples in line will receive a complimentary red rose from Verde Floral Design and a Red Hot goodie bag to help plan the special day. Each bag will be filled with gifts from our fine boutiques and restaurants including Roberto Coin, New Balance, Ghelfi’s Candies of Cape Cod, The Tinder Box, In the Pink and Bleu French Bistro. Pick-up and drop-off locations for the Carriage Rides will be located at the entrance to Williams Sonoma on Market Street.  This is a free event and open to the public. (more…)

Consigning Women

Finding a great deal when shopping is always satisfying. We talk a lot these days about shopping local and supporting small business and for good reason! Consignment stores are a great way to support your local retail community while saving money on some of life’s required purchases: clothing and furniture. There are a lot of high quality consignment shops scattered about the Cape. Perhaps one of the largest is Consigning Women in East Harwich.

Consigning Women was opened in August of 2005 by owner Mary Martin, consigning at that time just gently “loved” women’s clothing and accessories. In July of 2010 Mary moved the store into a 7,000 square foot space and began consigning furniture and home décor, along with the clothing. (more…)
