This month is very, very busy as so many outdoor tasks and household must dos are crying for our attention. It may mean painting, cleaning out garages for that sale, power washing the deck, cleaning windows and putting in screens, retrieving outdoor furniture from its winter storage location and the list goes on and on. Lighten Up, Will Ya?
Summer is around the corner, and this season on the Cape, it’s all about light and bright colors: orange, aqua, robin’s egg blue, yellow, hot pink, etc. Many of us tend to shy away from these hues, as we haven’t seen such bold colors since the late 80’s – and let’s be honest, we all groan a little bit when we look back at photos from that decade.
Fortunately, the experts at Empire Beauty School offered the following tips on how to lighten and brighten up your style this summer:
- Make-Up: Don’t be afraid to wear bold eye shadow and lip colors. Apply a neutral color, like taupe, to the base of your eye, and accent it with a brush of aqua in the crease or blue eyeliner across the lash line. If you’re the kind of girl who just can’t let go of her neutral shades, try applying a brighter shade to your cheeks or a shiny salmon colored lip gloss. Using a bronzer with a built in shimmer will also give your skin a summer glow. (more…)

CapeK9Cardio Presents Their 3rd Annual K-9 5K Trail Run/1 Mile Walk on July 1st 2012 to Benefit the Mashpee Dog Park
CapeK9Cardio began its pet sitting/dog walking business after Owner, Jason Michaud, noticed an improvement in the disposition of his Jack Russell Terrier after taking him on runs. Since then the business has grown to include a K-9 5K Trail Run or 1 Mile Walk to raise money for local dogs while emphasizing the importance of exercise for dogs. This year the 3rd annual event will be held on July 1st to support the ground breaking of the Mashpee Dog Park. Their mission is to promote responsible dog ownership and safe, legal off-leash recreation for dogs living in Mashpee and the surrounding areas.

Happening Kids: Beatrice Zaw
Meet Beatrice Zaw our newest Happening Kid. Beatrice is a 16 year old freshman at Falmouth High School. She also happens to be a very talented dancer!
Beatrice has been dancing for six years and currently studies under the direction of Sheena Harper, Artistic Director of Harper Dance Center in Mashpee. In addition to her twice per week practices, Beatrice also helps with the toddler ballet classes for 3-5 year olds. She also volunteers her time at the East Falmouth Elementary School, where on Wednesdays after school they teach ballet to third and fourth grade students interested in learning dance. For those kids participating in this program that show real promise and motivation a full scholarship to Harper Dance Center is offered. (more…)

CapeK9Cardio K-9 5K Trail Run
Ah, the dog days of summer are almost here, and do we have a great event in the works to give this summer a jump start! CapeK9Cardio will be holding their K-9 5K Trail Run and want you and your canine friends to join the fun!
Mark your calendars for this third annual event being held on July 1, 2012 at Falmouth Academy, 7 Highfield Drive, Falmouth, with proceeds to benefit the Mashpee Dog Park. Run the 5K race or walk the one mile course with or without a dog! Registration is 7:30am-8:30am with the actual race starting at 9:00am at Falmouth Academy. There will be T-Shirts for pre-registered participants and prizes for top finishers.
For those interested in exhibiting as a vendor, single and double tables are also available. This is a fun filled event that will offer some great exposure! If interested please fill out the registration forms at the CapeK9Cardio site.

Cape Cod Happening This Weekend: March 2-4, 2012
Welcome to the first weekend in March, and a busy one at that! Soon shutters will come down and seasonal businesses will hang their sign again, ushering in those first exciting signs of new beginnings. No matter the weather we know spring is just around the corner here on the cape. The next few days offer up a nice selection of happenings from live music performances to art exhibits and a little something in between to satisfy most everyone. The Brewster Ladies Library at 1822 Main Street, Brewster, holding a Dr. Seuss Breakfast on Saturday, March 3 to celebrate the author’s birthday at the beginning of the month. Come listen to “Dr. Seuss” read his favorite story, The Cat In the Hat. Enjoy green eggs and pancakes – and a visit with The Cat in person! Be sure to bring a camera for photos. All ages are welcome.
