This petite, one year old, gray tuxedo is Dottie. In spite of having been abandoned in Pocasset, she is a friendly, curious, and playful girl. Dottie gently touches our faces with her paw and affectionately butts her forehead against us. We think this happy girl would prefer to be the only cat in a household, but she might be okay with a dog and should be fine with children. A forever home of her own is our wish for Dottie.
Adoption hours at our shelter our Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or by appointment. The shelter address is 44 Beagle Lane in Teaticket.

CapeK9Cardio Presents Their 3rd Annual K-9 5K Trail Run/1 Mile Walk on July 1st 2012 to Benefit the Mashpee Dog Park

CapeK9Cardio began its pet sitting/dog walking business after Owner, Jason Michaud, noticed an improvement in the disposition of his Jack Russell Terrier after taking him on runs. Since then the business has grown to include a K-9 5K Trail Run or 1 Mile Walk to raise money for local dogs while emphasizing the importance of exercise for dogs. This year the 3rd annual event will be held on July 1st to support the ground breaking of the Mashpee Dog Park. Their mission is to promote responsible dog ownership and safe, legal off-leash recreation for dogs living in Mashpee and the surrounding areas.
CapeK9Cardio takes pride in providing the best possible pet care for Upper Cape Cod pet owners. They are a Bonded and Insured Cape Cod Pet Care Company covering Falmouth, Mashpee and most of Bourne MA. Their exceptional pet care begins with your free consultation where they will meet you and all of your pets in your home to ensure their care meets all of your expectations.
This year’s K-9 5K will feature pet friendly vendors, drawings and raffles for prizes and a special appearance.

Meet Shadow, a friendly tortoiseshell cat who is about 7 years old. She came to us because she was unhappy living in a household with very young children. She has been declawed, so she must be adopted as an indoor cat. We recommend that all cats be kept inside but it is especially important with a declawed cat that has no way of defending itself.
Shadow has adjusted to shelter life now and, although she would prefer to be the only pet, might live comfortably with a mellow cat. She still waits for us to come to her but once we stroke and pet her, she is friendly and appreciative of the attention. Shadow would like a calm home without the bustle of toddler aged children, but should fit in well with almost any other type of family.
Our shelter is located down Beagle Lane in Teaticket, at number 44. Adoption hours are Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or by appointment.

It never ceases to amaze me when our communities of Cape Cod rally together to support a local and necessary cause. Did you know that Cape Cod has a homeless population of approximately 1,000, with single mothers and children making up the fastest growing segment of the population?
In response to this startling statistic, the freshman students at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School have joined forces with the clothing store Aéropostle and DoSomething.org to help support the 2012 ‘Teens for Jeans’ campaign. From now until February 16th, just drop off your good-quality used jeans at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, 351 Pleasant Lake Ave in Harwich; or the Harwich Police Department located at 183 Sisson Road in Harwich, and they will be donated to homeless teens across the Cape. To thank you for your support and donation, Aéropostle will provide you with a coupon for 25% off a new pair of jeans purchased at their store.
Cape Cod Tech students are involved with this crusade, through the school’s Community Service Learning program: a teaching and learning approach that integrates community service with academic and technical study to enrich learning; teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities.
For additional information about the Cape Cod Tech ‘Teens for Jeans’ drive, contact Karen Small at: 508-432-4500 x 324; and for additional information about the ‘Teens for Jeans’ campaign please visit DoSomething.org.
We believe it’s never too early to start thinking about spring here on the cape. Especially since it has been feeling on average more like April than January!
There is a fantastic event ‘brewing’ for the end of April so we wanted to be sure you all mark your calendars in anticipation. On Saturday, April 28 Falmouth Academy will be hosting their Mariner Craft Beer tasting! This will be a great social event that will feature nautical themed craft beers from various brewers, as well as lots of complementary and delicious foods from local Cape Cod restaurants. Come and sample your favorite beers and learn more about how these delicious brews are made!
There will be live music and silent auction items and other exciting activities to help make this a truly enjoyable evening. Additional details to follow regarding participating brewers and restaurants, along with ticket availability and accommodations. Stay tuned for updates!
Cape Cod inspires…the vast open skies and sea offering a contemplative spot to meditate if you will, on what is important to us. Perhaps it is these open spaces, the non-confining feel to the cape that allows us to feel a sense of freedom. We can look out to the sea that appears to never end, with the belief that anything is possible, helping us to fuel our passions and feel a sense of purpose. It is no surprise that with the sea in our back yard, and the open sky as a ‘pallet’, Cape Cod would be home to many talented artists whose personalities shine through their work. (more…)
If you are new to Cape Cod Happening then you will quickly learn that we are lovers of all things baked, and in particular all things chocolate! So it is no surprise that we would want to celebrate National Brownie Day with you … that’s right National Brownie Day.
Every year on December 8 people celebrate the delicious and chewy brownie. Not that we need an actual day to honor the amazing brownie; yet it assuages some of the guilt that may come with over indulging in this sweet treat. In honor of the holiday season we thought we would offer up a few brownie recipes with a holiday twist, a delectable addition to any holiday party dessert tray!
The peppermint bark recipe below can also be made separately as a treat or even a nice gift wrapped with colored cellophane and ribbon! (more…)
