Happening Kids: Sam Graber-Hahn

On any given day if we are lucky, we will cross paths with some remarkable people. Those with talents and insights we hope they share willingly leaving us with an unforeseen ‘gift’.  There is no age limit for those from whom we can learn or be inspired; in fact it is often children who can offer the most clear and unencumbered vision, of learning to appreciate something new in our lives.

One such inspirational person is our newest Happening Kid, Sam Graber-Hahn. Sam lives in Vineyard Haven with his family.  He is a bright, charming and engaging young man, who happens to play the violin … and extraordinarily well I might add! And though the violin playing might be what brought us together for a meeting, it is clear that Sam is more than just a budding classical musician. (more…)

How To Maximize Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Maximize Curb AppealAs the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression – and the exterior of your house is the first impression your home makes on a guest. Still trying to decide how you want to spend your Valentine’s Day and eve? For those last minute planners who want to enjoy a delicious meal with those you love, we have a selected a few of our favorite restaurants serving a special dinner package. We have also outlined a few fun and unique ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day Cape Cod style!

Why not celebrate Valentine’s Day in grand style at Mashpee Commons on Sunday, February 12 from 12-4pm! Surprise your loved ones with a romantic Horse-Drawn Carriage ride around the Commons, then catch a movie at Regal Cinemas or dinner and drinks at one of their award-winning restaurants. Provided by Paradise Stables of West Yarmouth, the carriages are beautiful white and black vis-à-vis limos, each pulled by two Percheron draft horses. The first 150 couples in line will receive a complimentary red rose from Verde Floral Design and a Red Hot goodie bag to help plan the special day. Each bag will be filled with gifts from our fine boutiques and restaurants including Roberto Coin, New Balance, Ghelfi’s Candies of Cape Cod, The Tinder Box, In the Pink and Bleu French Bistro. Pick-up and drop-off locations for the Carriage Rides will be located at the entrance to Williams Sonoma on Market Street.  This is a free event and open to the public. (more…)

Teens for Jeans Campaign

It never ceases to amaze me when our communities of Cape Cod rally together to support a local and necessary cause. Did you know that Cape Cod has a homeless population of approximately 1,000, with single mothers and children making up the fastest growing segment of the population?

In response to this startling statistic, the freshman students at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School have joined forces with the clothing store Aéropostle and DoSomething.org to help support the 2012 ‘Teens for Jeans’ campaign.  From now until February 16th, just drop off your good-quality used jeans at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, 351 Pleasant Lake Ave in Harwich; or the Harwich Police Department located at 183 Sisson Road in Harwich, and they will be donated to homeless teens across the Cape. To thank you for your support and donation, Aéropostle will provide you with a coupon for 25% off a new pair of jeans purchased at their store.

Cape Cod Tech students are involved with this crusade, through the school’s Community Service Learning program:  a teaching and learning approach that integrates community service with academic and technical study to enrich learning; teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities.

For additional information about the Cape Cod Tech ‘Teens for Jeans’ drive, contact Karen Small at:  508-432-4500 x 324; and for additional information about the ‘Teens for Jeans’ campaign please visit DoSomething.org.

Check out a few other non-music related events as well and remember no matter what you choose, relax and enjoy! Here are a few of our favorites to share with you.
